A Little About Me...

Growing up, picking a career has been quite difficult for me. I went from aspiring to be a doctor, to being a neonatal nurse, to being a vet, and many more. But I was always interested in art. I was passionate about crafting, drawing, and photography. If it dealt with art, I found it interesting. When I went to Middlesex Community College, I felt like home. The new media center excited me causing me to decide to achieve a multimedia degree. Now that I am in my second year, I feel as though this was the path I was meant to be on. Although I can pursue anything within the field of multimedia, I have my heart set on film. Luckily I took a class called “Video Production”. There, I created multiple videos I was proud of and even recognized for. I enjoyed the process of showing a creative outlook and controlling what the audience can see with the way I positioned the camera or edited the shot. So as a career choice, I’d want to be a professional filmmaker.

There are many aspects to a person that is required to be a filmmaker. Some of my talents that will help me to do so are my ability to interact with people, craft, draw, and work hard. I always thought that I had excellent social skills and can easily navigate myself through a conversation. Since I am part of a crafting business, being able to communicate with others is very important. I have to be professional, get my point across, and stay positive so that the customer feels satisfied and happy with the conversation. I also am talented with working hard to achieve the quality of art I desire. Throughout my time at Middlesex, I have gone through classes that dealt with film and drawing, and in each one, I have worked hard to go above and beyond the requirements. I also enjoyed the outcome and the compliments that followed even more so since I stayed after to perfect the works of art. Having my artwork featured in the hallways made me feel appreciated and like I was a worthy artist. I also had one of my videos referred to as “professional” and placed into the film festival. Even the president of the college wants to put the video on the school website. The combination of the positive feedback, ability to communicate well with others, as well as the passion and desire to work hard has lead me to want to pursue a filming career.

Even though I want to get a job within the filming industry, I still value money. I want to be able to take vacations to places and have luxury items. I find it ideal to not have to worry about when the next paycheck would be so I can pay the bills on time. But what is more important to me than money is my own happiness. I want to enjoy my job rather than just try to get through the day. I feel as though that is a waste of life especially since I worked so hard to get to that point. What would be the ultimate goal is to get a well-paying job and to be able to live comfortably. Either way, I know that I would enjoy filming since it makes me happy now, therefore, it will most likely make me happy later in life.

Finding who I am, my strengths and weaknesses, passions and dislikes, is a lifelong journey for me. But I know that I want to work with art. Therefore, I need to balance being near family and making money. In the end, I hope I will be lead on the path of happiness, satisfaction, and success within the field of multimedia.
